The Kumasi City Mall (KCM) is not just any shopping mall, it’s the very first of its kind in Kumasi, redefining how the city shops, dines, and unwinds. Opened with a grand splash, this $95 million project took just 24 months to rise and become one of the largest malls in West Africa, bringing the convenience of world-class shopping to the heart of the Ashanti Region.
Whether you’re here to grab your daily essentials or enjoy a fun day out, KCM offers something for everyone. The mix of stores is as diverse as the people of Kumasi itself, with shops ranging from local favorites to international brands. Owned by Delico Kumasi Limited, the mall shares ownership ties with the Achimota Retail Center and West Hills Mall in Accra, making it part of a top-tier family of retail hubs in Ghana.
A Glimpse into History
On June 6, 2014, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, broke ground for what would soon be Kumasi’s premier shopping destination. After 24 months of hard work, the mall was completed in April 2017. Although the grand opening was initially scheduled for April 20, 2017, the red ribbon was officially cut on May 10, 2017, better late than never for such a magnificent project!
However, not all has been smooth sailing. On December 11, 2018, a part of the ceiling at the mall’s food court unexpectedly caved in. Fortunately, the incident happened just before shops opened for the day, and no one was harmed. It was a reminder that even shopping malls sometimes have a dramatic story to tell!
Who’s Running the Show?
KCM operates under the guidance of a four-member Board of Directors. The day-to-day operations are handled by Broll Ghana Limited, while AttAfrica Asset Managers ensures everything stays on track financially and strategically. Together, they make sure KCM remains a top-notch destination for shoppers.
Where to Find It
Located in Asokwa, a lively suburb of Kumasi, the mall is conveniently placed at the crossroads of Lake Bosomtwe Road, Yaa Asantewaa Road, and Hudson Street. Sprawling across a vast 15.4-acre area, KCM boasts a massive 18,500 square meters of retail space, with parking for over 1,000 cars both above ground and in the basement. So, whether you’re driving or hopping in a taxi, there’s always room for you at KCM.
From fashion boutiques to tech stores, from casual dining to fine cuisine, the Kumasi City Mall offers it all. It’s not just a shopping center, it’s a lifestyle destination that has become an integral part of Kumasi’s vibrant culture.
