The Sunyani Teaching Hospital, formerly known as the Sunyani Regional Hospital, is a modern facility built by the International Hospital Group (IHG) from the UK. It was handed over to the Government of Ghana in 2003 and officially opened by Former President John Evans Atta Mills in 2009. Initially operating as a secondary healthcare facility under the Ghana Health Service, it serves the Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions, as well as neighboring countries like Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, with 350 beds.
In 2023, the hospital was approved for conversion into a teaching hospital during a Cabinet meeting. The Health Minister, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, announced this change, which includes plans to establish a Medical School at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR). The official launch of the Teaching Hospital took place on 18th November 2023.
