Akufo-Addo received his primary and secondary education in Ghana and went on to study at the University of Ghana, Legon, and later at the Inns of Court School of Law in London.

After completing his legal education, Akufo-Addo worked as a barrister and solicitor at law firms in Ghana and France. He also served as an attorney general and justice minister during the presidency of Jerry Rawlings in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Akufo-Addo has been involved in Ghanaian politics for several decades. He served as the Member of Parliament for the Abuakwa South constituency in the Eastern Region of Ghana for multiple terms. Akufo-Addo has held various ministerial positions in Ghanaian governments, including Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2003 to 2007.

Akufo-Addo ran for the presidency of Ghana on three occasions before ultimately winning the election in December 2016. He first ran as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate in 2008 and narrowly lost to the incumbent, John Atta Mills. He ran again in 2012 and lost to John Mahama. In 2016, Akufo-Addo won the presidency in a hotly contested election, defeating incumbent President John Dramani Mahama.

He assumed office as the President of Ghana on January 7, 2017. During his presidency, he has focused on several key priorities, including economic development, education reform, healthcare improvement, and the fight against corruption. His administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at boosting economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the welfare of Ghanaians.
